ADVANTAGES

In order for someone to take part in our short, long, accredited or non-accredited academic programs they need first to be a member of the Global Studies Institute (GSI). This can take place in two ways; either as an individual student directly with GSI or as part of the Organizational Membership where the institution that they are enrolled with becomes a member of GSI. Individual Membership costs US$25 per annum and an Organizational Membership costs US$2,000 per organization per annum with unlimited number of students from that organization named as members.

The membership allows GSI to provide to the students:

  • access to our sites worldwide
  • use of GSI's resources and facilities while in country
  • enrolment admission to GSI's many accredited and non-accredited programs at a .discounted rate
  • networking potential with all other members in their field of study through GSI's Subject .Link Network program
  • a quarterly Newsletter
  • many discounts to various facilities and activities in GSI's immense network of partner institutions and organizations (These include travel savings, accommodation, tourist facilities, car rentals, entrance fees, taxes, recreational facilities, subscriptions, membership to other scientific organizations and institutions etc.)

STUDY GROUPS

Once you become a member of GSI anyone can take part in our network of Study Groups. These are groups formed by those who have a shared interest in respective subjects. Basically, an individual can initiate and form new, or join if one already exists, a study group that is interested in a specific topic in the field of Ecology or Conservation. We don't limit people to form groups in only these fields but our members are primarily interested in these subject areas. Then if this group decides to organize an expedition or even a specific academic course, GSI through our extensive network of experts and resources in the field, can assist in formulating an exclusive program tailored to the specific needs of the group. We can usually do this in a very cost effective manner as long as the topic is within our scope and directives.

Below you will find a list of subject headings which will give you an idea of the topics Global Studies Institute Australia specialises in.

Once a member, the individual can contact other members that are interested in the same field or research topic to see where their shared interest will take them. There have been many cases where collaborative studies have been formulated or field trips and expeditions have resulted from such contact.

Other benefits, besides just meeting those who have a mutual study interest, is that often as a group there are great savings when planning an overseas program or an expedition.

Usually the organizing person has their costs paid for if they have a group of 10 or more students. This arrangement is usually quite attractive to the professors in our member organizations.
